Wenyi is an artist and curator based in London. She practiced professional skills in BA, such as oil painting, Chinese traditional painting, sculpture and print, and boost them into critical and historical thinking in MA. She usually uses painting, writing, and sculpture to experience the fusion of thinking and media. Her published group work “Wild Stone” is collected by Tate Britain and Freud Museum. She is the one of core members of artist group “The Wild Parlour” in London. Her works have been exhibited in London, Shanghai, and Xian

 

About:

 

Susan Kozel's (2010) theory of Material ontology, which refers to the reciprocal insertion research mode of knowledge studies and practice, will be taken as guidance. In my practice, I am conducting an exposition of traditional Chinese painting symbols to explore the embodiment between painting and the female body. As the symbols evoke imagination beyond their painterly quality, they invite contemplation upon viewing the works. Consequently, the senses will be employed as a politics of practice, surpassing and transcending mere signification. Furthermore, Roland Barthes's fragmented approach in 'A Lover's Discourse' serves as a reference for contemplating the relationship between text and visual arts.
